1st Armilla International Piano Competition.
On March 1st, the 1st Armilla International Competition was held at the Casa García de Viedma in Armilla (Granada) as part of the 3rd Armilla Festival of Young Classical Music Performers.
This wonderful cultural event was funded by the Armilla City Council, in collaboration with the Experimental School of Music and Ciempiés. Its artistic director is Juan Elvira-Márquez.
It featured a panel of prestigious pianists, Javier Herreros, Andrey Reznik, Myriam Sotelo, Lidia Haro and Juan Elvira-Márquez, with Leonel Morales as president of the jury.
As Juan comments, "Pianists often participate in various competitions to promote themselves professionally, but above all as a motivational and learning tool. We must not only get used to stage fright; we also have to work on being judged and managing successes and frustrations. This competition aims to be a gentle introduction to this training path."
The competition took place in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, with the shared music at its center. During the coffee breaks and the impromptu museum tour, there was a sense of tranquility uncommon at such events. Enjoying the magnificent facilities of the Casa García de Viedma and the professionalism of its technicians and custodians is a guarantee of success.
Our thanks to Pablo Cano, Councilor for Culture of Armilla, who opened the doors of this space to us.
After the awards ceremony, a gala was held where the first and second prizes were awarded. At the end, a relaxed meeting took place between the contestants and the jury members to learn from their successes and mistakes.
The winners for their participation were: Salma Galindo, Jorge Salvador, Andrés Palao, Lukas Kummer, Cristina Rodríguez, and Juan Miguel Hidalgo.
The winners in the junior category were: first prize for Ba Minh Quan Dang, second prize for Jorge Mena, and third prize shared by Julia González Lara and Uxue Filib.
The winners in the promising youngsters category were: first prize Alejandro de Castro, second prize María Luisa Alfonso Meseguer, and third prize Viktoria Petkova.
Our most sincere thanks to all the contestants and the families who accompanied them, with the certainty that the real winners were the audience who enjoyed such a high level of piano playing.
